Why microneedling

Why choose SkinPen Microneedling in Atlanta

First FDA-cleared device

SkinPen was the first microneedling device the FDA cleared, backed by a long list of safety and efficacy studies.

No heat, no chemicals

It relies on your skin's own healing rather than thermal energy or acids, which keeps the risk profile low.

Built for melanin-rich skin

Because it uses no heat or light, it carries a low risk of the pigment problems that energy-based devices can cause on deeper tones.

Scars, texture, and pores

It softens acne scarring and stretch marks and helps refine enlarged pores as collagen rebuilds.

Short recovery

The outer layer of skin stays intact, so most people are back to normal within a day or so.

Pairs with boosters

The channels help skin boosters settle deeper, which is why SkinPen is often done alongside them.

Concerns

For the person who wants to target...

The early signs of aging

Microneedling rebuilds collagen and elastin from the inside, which firms early skin laxity and softens fine lines, and it makes skin feel more resilient over a series. It is a strong choice if you want to work on aging early and keep it low-downtime.

Mild to medium hyperpigmentation

Because it uses no heat or light, microneedling is one of the lower-risk ways to work on discoloration on melanin-rich skin. It helps fade post-breakout marks and mild to moderate unevenness as it remodels the skin, and the channels help brightening boosters absorb. For deeper, more stubborn pigment, we will come up with a customized treatment plan for you that may include a combination therapy.

How it works

What happens under the surface

SkinPen works by starting your body's own repair process, which moves through three stages after treatment.

  1. 1

    Inflammation

Right after, the skin looks red or slightly swollen as your body clears the area and blood flow increases. This sets up everything that follows.

  2. 2

    Proliferation

Over the next few days, your skin rebuilds, laying down fresh collagen and elastin. It may look a little pink or feel textured as new tissue forms.

  3. 3

    Remodeling

In the weeks ahead, that new tissue matures into firmer, smoother skin with a more even tone. This is where the visible change comes from.

How I work

Precision that respects your skin

I'm a master medical esthetician in Atlanta, and I work specifically with melanin-rich and sensitive skin. With SkinPen, that means I read your skin's thickness and concern before setting a single depth, so the treatment does the work you came for without overstressing the barrier.

I'll also be honest about fit. If SkinPen is not the right call for your skin, I'll tell you and point you to what is.

What to expect

Your session, step by step

  1. 1

    Consultation

I look at your skin tone, texture, and what you want to change, and confirm SkinPen is the right call. If it is, you can usually treat the same day.

  2. 2

    Cleanse and numb

Your skin is cleansed and a topical numbing cream goes on for comfort.

  3. 3

    Treatment

The SkinPen device creates the controlled microchannels that trigger collagen and elastin. Most people feel light pressure or vibration rather than pain.

  4. 4

    Results

Skin looks fresher within a week to ten days, with the real collagen change building over the following weeks.

  5. 5

    Follow-up

We book your next session four to six weeks out, while the collagen is still building. That rhythm is what turns one good result into lasting change, and it's where we build your regimen to support the work between visits.

Candidacy

Is SkinPen right for you?

SkinPen suits most people who want to work on acne scars, texture, fine lines, or early skin laxity with little downtime. The best way to know is a consultation, where I review your skin and your history honestly. SkinPen may not be the right fit if you:

  • Have an active breakout, cold sore, or open skin in the treatment area
  • Have a history of keloid scarring
  • Live with eczema, psoriasis, or another skin immune condition
  • Have a bleeding disorder
  • Are pregnant or nursing

If SkinPen is not right for you, I'll talk through other options that fit your skin and your goals.

Before your appointment

How to prep

  • Come with clean skin

Arrive without makeup so I can assess your skin and start on a fresh surface.

  • Pause blood thinners

For about seven days before, avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen, along with fish oil, vitamin E, and other supplements that thin the blood, unless a doctor has you on them.

  • Stop retinoids and exfoliants

Keep retinoids and harsh exfoliants off the treatment area for about seven days before.

  • Pause injectables

No Botox, filler, or other injectables in the two weeks before your session.

  • Wait out breakouts and cold sores

If you have an active cold sore or breakout in the area, reschedule until it has fully healed.

  • Skip hair removal

No waxing, threading, or depilatory creams for about five to seven days before. If there is hair on the treatment area, shave it beforehand so the device can make clean contact.

  • Stay out of the sun

Avoid tanning and sunburn for at least a week before. Microneedling is only done on healthy, uncompromised skin.

After your treatment

Aftercare and recovery

  • Leave makeup off for about 72 hours

Give the skin time to recover without products sitting on top of it.

  • Keep it simple and hydrated

For the first few days, use only a gentle cleanser and the calming products I send you home with, and hold off on everything else.

  • Do not pick or scratch

Let any flaking shed on its own so you do not disturb the new skin.

  • Pause your actives

No retinoids, acids, exfoliants, or vitamin C for about 72 hours, or until I clear you.

  • Avoid heat and sweat

For the first day or two, skip hot showers, saunas, and hard workouts, since heat can trigger inflammation.

  • Drink plenty of water

Hydration supports the skin while it heals.

  • Protect with SPF

Starting the day after, wear a broad-spectrum SPF and stay out of direct sun while the skin heals.
